The bathroom is becoming increasingly important as a living area and somewhere to relax. This is why so much more is expected of the bathroom today than simply somewhere to take a bath, wash or shower. The comprehensive bathroom concepts of the future are based on individual needs. A trend is increasingly emerging for the bathroom to become a furnished living area that, at the same time, promotes active healthcare and, with multifunctional products, offers maximum comfort. There is thus a demand for innovative product ideas that are visually attractive in the long term.
The bathroom as a living area
Modern bathroom design is much more than the sum of the individual furnishing objects. It also involves looking for individual solutions in order to structure rooms and to define zones as wet and dry areas. The 2nd floor bathroom range, developed by Duravit and Sieger Design, already features this architectural quality. With 2nd floor, the washing area does not have to follow the familiar structures along the wall. With four drawers at the front and an illuminated shelf on the back, the washing area which is designed as a room divider not only offers a tremendous amount of storage space but also opens up completely new possibilities in bathroom design: positioned as a stand-alone element at a 90° angle to the wall, it projects freely into the room. A matching mirror solution with mirrors suspended from the ceiling allows for maximum flexibility. The 100-cm wide tall cabinet with sliding mirror doors and interior lighting is another solution for breaking down familiar structures and enhancing the quality in this living space. This is also largely determined by the materials used and the surface finishes: bathroom furniture with high-quality wood finishes give the bathroom a real warmth and personality.
Healthcare in the private spa
As an expression of a new awareness for individual wellbeing, the bathroom is becoming a place for active healthcare. Inipi by Eoos is a modern designer sauna that, with minimal dimensions of 120 x 120 cm, offers ample space for one person. A sauna session is greatly beneficial to both physical and emotional relaxation. Alternate hot and cold stimuli restore balance to the autonomic nervous system, exercise the walls of blood vessels and prevent the causes of high blood pressure. With lower temperatures and up to 100% air humidity, the St. Trop steam shower designed by Philippe Starck has a footprint of just one square metre and offers relaxing steam pleasure at the push of a button, as well as the comfort of a fully-fledged shower for everyday use. Regular steam baths activate the immune system, support muscular regeneration and stimulate the skin’s metabolism. Duravit offers baths and pools with various whirl systems and a large variety of water massage effects - ranging from targeted muscular relaxation to an invigorating bath – on request, enhanced with coloured lights and music.
Diverse functions for maximum comfort
Innovative products that perform several functions simultaneously meet the complex requirements of modern bathroom users: for example, with one and the same product, the user can take a steam bath or shower and, at the same time, enjoy the beneficial effects of colours, scents and sounds. There is a whole raft of innovative examples: the Nahho flotation tub, designed by Eoos, combines the relaxed feeling of weightlessness with music and gentle, indirect lighting. After use, the OpenSpace shower partition serves as a panel that is simply folded back against the wall; in combination with the flotation tub and shower, it provides the perfect wellness combination in a space of just 210 x 100 cm. On request, OpenSpace is available with mirrored sides thus offering a further practical benefit. The Sundeck baths and pools with upholstered relaxation deck, also by Eoos design, can be quickly transformed into large sunbathing areas. Even the toilet today is more than just a standard toilet: the SensoWash shower-toilet seat designed by Philippe Starck features pioneering technology. A stainless steel spray arm with three shower types performs the function of a bidet. Water temperature, water volume and nozzle position can all be individually adjusted. Feeling clean and fresh, the next stage is the warm, drying air.
Thanks to the variety of innovative product ideas from Duravit, there are almost no limits to individual bathroom design. At the same time, they offer lasting quality and timeless design.
